THE HEADS OF THE GOVERNMENT AND THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY JOIN EFFORTS TO FORM AN EFFECTIVE ECONOMIC POLICY

10.03.2017

Volodymyr Groisman, Prime Minister of Ukraine, treats with severe harshness all attempts of state controlling bodies to groundlessly put pressure on the business. During the meeting with the heads of major business associations – the Ukrainian CCI, the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Federation of Employers and the Council of Entrepreneurs under the Cabinet of Ministers - it was decided to improve communication, to hold regular exchanges of views, to actively involve the business community into forming an effective economic policy in the country.

"Only constant dialogue with the Government and personally with the Prime Minister makes it possible to highlight effectively the challenges that the business is currently facing, and by joint efforts to develop  a Governmental plan to overcome them. The Prime Minister supported our joint initiative to hold the Second Ukrainian business forum in April. This event is to become a platform to improvement of cooperation between the authorities and NGOs. The Prime Minister also positively assessed  two large-scale events that the  Ukrainian CCI jointly with partners plans to hold in May – the  National Export Support Forum and the Business Forum of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Kyiv. They are to create effective mechanisms for support and promotion of domestic exports ", - said Gennadiy Chyzhykov, UCCI President.

During the meeting a number of practical issues that concern business today were raised. For example, Ukrainian companies that now have to export their products to Central Asia and North-Western provinces of China  bypassing Russia are often appealing to the UCCI with their problems. The transportation tariffs almost doubled and, as a result, during one year the Ukrainian cargo traffic in that direction was reduced by 40%. Thus, we started to loose our  traditional markets. It also became difficult to schedule deliveries.

Another crucial question that the leaders of the business community brought to the attention to the Head of the Government is the impact of excessive currency regulation on the domestic economy. Business requires further liberalization of the requirements for mandatory sale of currency to the level of at least 50%. Even under this condition, exporting companies would be forced to buy back their own currency for purchasing imported raw materials, components, technologies needed for their production.
