THE UKRAINIAN CCI HELPS UKRAINIAN ENTERPRISES TO OPEN NEW MARKETS IN TURKEY

16.03.2017

The Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry aims to help domestic businesses to significantly increase trade with Turkey in the coming years. This was stated by the President of the Chamber Gennadiy Chyzhykov during the Ukrainian-Turkish business forum, held in the framework of the visit of the official State delegation headed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman to Turkey.

“Ukrainian exports to Turkey over the past three years has decreased by almost 70%. This level of trade and economic relations can not satisfy us. Ukraine is trying to expand the range of its exports to Turkey by increasing sales of goods with high added value. To do this we need to restructure the Ukrainian industry, to expand production of more high-tech and innovative products, to create a modern competitive production. The UCCI is trying to involve small and medium enterprises into this process as much as possible. We invite Turkish businesses to participate in the realization of our plans. Turkey's experience in achieving economic progress in recent decades can be very useful for Ukrainian businesses, in particular for small and medium businesses;  the experience of successful entering into the EU market may also be important", - the UCCI President Gennadiy Chyzhykov said in his speech at the Forum.

The Forum was organized by the Commission for Foreign  Trade of Turkey (DEIK) together with the UCCI. Its goal - to discuss new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation, export-import interests, interest in industrial cooperation, investment projects. The event was attended by representatives of leading business holdings of the Turkish Republic and the delegation of Ukrainian business people.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, addressing the Forum, said: "I am grateful to the Turkish colleagues for their support and willingness to deepen bilateral cooperation between our countries. I would like to stress the importance for us of investments and  of success of companies investing  in Ukraine. We do not need nominal investments - we need successful investments, because it is the key to sustainable economic growth of our country".

Turkey is traditionally one of the most important trade partners of Ukraine, one of the main markets for our exports, the window to the markets of other countries in the Middle East and Africa. Ukraine and Turkey have strong potential and opportunities for cooperation, ranging from use of natural resources  to airspace technologies. We can effectively develop cooperation in energy, agriculture, engineering, aircraft construction. Creating an industrial park in Ukraine, using Turkey’s experience, can become a promising project which will reveal the full potential of Ukrainian science and technology.

In 2017 the agenda of Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation includes three major objectives: signing of a free trade agreement, of a revised agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments and of an agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and property. In addition, the governments aim to increase bilateral trade in the future to 20 billion US dollars (in 2016 - 3 billion US dollars).

It is worth to recall that Turkey is among the countries with which cooperation at the level of Chambers of Commerce is developing most rapidly. For over 25 years the Ukrainian-Turkish Business Council has been working successfully. The Council provides practical help to businesses in finding partners in trade and industrial cooperation, investment attraction, provides information services regarding legislation regulating foreign trade in both countries, distributes business offers of companies, holds business forums, conferences, etc.
